Whereas an argumentative essay seeks to contrast one argument with another, a discursive approach sets out one line of logical argument (proceeding from one point to another) towards a final conclusion. Topics for discursive essays and argumentative essays will be similar, e.g. The death penalty is out of place in modern society.
