ï,- An auxiliary verb is a helping verb that precedes the main verb, e.g. I am hoping to go. He has bought a car. Many verbs can be used either as auxiliary or finite verbs, e.g. I am cold. He has a car. In both these cases, the verbs am and has are used as finite verbs.
