(also called cutaway) a quick jump between shots, often used in chase scenes (e.g. car chases) in which the first car is seen going past a landmark, and then a jump cut is used to show the chasing car; another jump cut is used to show the second car going past the landmark. The effect is to heighten suspense and speed up the action.
