a written report containing the writerâ??s opinion about a play, art exhibition, book or other art work. People who write reviews are called critics. Reviews (in newspapers, magazines or online) can boost attendances if they are positive. Conversely, bad reviews keep audiences away. Some reviews have become famous because of the ferocity of the put-downs they contain. Writing for the Denver Tribute in 1880 about the performance of an actor in Shakespeareâ??s play, King Lear, critic Eugene Field wrote, He played the King as though under the momentary apprehension that someone else was about to play the ace.
