a style of writing and speaking that is verbose, the opposite of concise. Too many words are used and the extra words obscure meaning and are tiresome to read. E.g. The practice of employing a vast array of tautologous and redundant phrases and clauses in the cause of enhanced understanding is most decidedly counter-productive in that it, in fact, often distracts and confuses the reader, thus decreasing potential for understanding.
